Monday 28th December- bike ***** - Felixstowe to Levington Church for lunch – sunny and still.

Mag suggested we take lunch to Levington on our bikes today as it was sunny with light winds, ideal for cycling. So, after breakfast and exercises and with a chicken sandwich packed, we leave home just after midday. With all the rain we have had of late, can’t remember it raining so much here in Suffolk we decided to stick mainly stick to the roads, not our favourite as we like to get away from the traffic. We head out on the long Walton/Trimley High Road past several churches and only got hooted once by a Pratt in a car, couldn’t see his problem as we were both in the cycle lane! Then along the cycle path that runs along side the A 14 which is scarry with container lorries thundering past, luckily because of the holidays there were few lorries about but there was a constant stream of cars heading to Felixstowe for a walk along the prom much to the annoyance of Facebooks Felixstowe Residents Page! We turn off onto the old A 14 past the marina road taking the next left leading to Levington Village which had loads of huge puddles which made the cars slow down, us too! We reached the very lovely Levington Church with stunning views down to the Orwell and sat on one of the seats by the door for our picnic, top chicken sandwich followed by a mince pie with thick cream with a warming cuppa. We sat in the sunshine for ages enjoying the views with a steady stream of walkers heading down to the river which was like a mill pool:) Several people stopped to look down to the field with the huge tree, so we guessed the deer were about. I walked over the road to check it out and the field below was full of grazing deer, I counted 37, just amazing. I called Mag over to see and they got a bit jumpy, running about! Time to continue back with a small detour to look at Levington Creek, past the marina entrance, over the level crossing and back to Morston Hall Lane taking the new farm track by the railway line back to Trimley. Then down Blofield Lane, past the new massive warehouses being built and home. What a top ride out being out for 2 hrs. 45 mins. covering over 14 miles.
